Equipment/Controller

At the start of your DJ journey. It is important to have these 4 items in your possession. We understand everyone has different financial situations, but this part of the start is crucial.

  • Laptop
  • Software
  • Controller
  • Speakers

There are way too many brands for me to mention for recommendations for laptops or speakers. For the laptop just know if your computer can reliably handle the software recommended. Same thing for the speakers. Just make sure the work, sound good, and have the right inputs for audio. What i want to focus on here are the controllers that really decide what kind of DJing experience you want to have more than anything.

Cost Effective Starter

These are recommended controllers that fulfill the ability to control your music through your choice of Software but also have the ability to output audio through the controller itself. This saves you money from having to buy a separate mixer. Portability and affordability are also put into the formula. These are perfect for the entry level DJ and hobbyist that just needs enough to look legitimate.

  • Pioneer FLX-4 ($300)
  • Traktor S4 ($400)
  • Denon MC4000 ($400)
  • Hercules Impulse ($180)

Pro Starter Controllers

For those that are serious about taking DJ to a professional level. These have the look, ability, and pro needs. This is for those who want their investment to payoff both in money made from gigs, but also the feel of using professional equipment and experience. Although the learning curb for using these is steep, once basic skills are somewhat mastered, a heavy feeling of fulfillment is felt and the growth of learning new techniques and furthering your skills along with wanting to play live more often; becomes somewhat addicting.

  • Denon Prime 4 ($2000)
  • Pioneer Rev-7 ($1800)
  • Traktor S4 ($1000)
  • Hercules T7 ($700)
